Capital Account

Keith Tan

A component of the balance of payments account that measures transfers of capital.

Under capital account, imports and exports of non-produced, non-financial assets, such as the rights to natural resources, are recorded in this sub-account.  This also includes the sale and purchase of intangible assets, such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, franchises, and leases.

Capital transfers include debt forgiveness, and assets that migrants bring when they come, or take with them when they leave.
